2020 has certainly been a roller coaster of a year for many of us including in the landscape and horticultural industries. The commitment and perseverance we have witnessed on a daily basis as a nation has been humbling, and the support and community spirit from the industry has been inspiring. One of the unsung heroes of our greater industry community has been the tireless work and dedication carried out by Perennial. As the UK’s only charity dedicated to helping anyone (including their families), who work in horticulture, arboriculture and landscaping, or have retired from the industry, Perennial have provided a constant and dependable support network for those facing difficulties.
Perennial’s all-encompassing passion for our industry is also mirrored in the work they carry out with a cradle to grave approach. What started out over 180 years ago as a charity to help those in horticultural retirement, has evolved to meet the ongoing needs of our greater green community by offering free and confidential help, advice, financial assistance and services for every stage of life. Today, more so than ever, the work and services offered by Perennial are a lifeline for so many in the industry.
We recently had a chat with Kate Cooney from Perennial on becoming a Perennial Partner and were astounded to discover the lengths and efforts this incredible charity goes to. From students and self-employed gardeners to large scale landscape construction companies, Perennial will help everyone including their spouses, partners and children, who works or studies in any area of the industry, including sectors which span other industries such as sportsgrounds, golf clubs and landscape construction. With a team of Caseworkers, Perennial can assist with every aspect of life and any situation that someone may find daunting and overwhelming. Perennial’s completely confidential and personal approach, ensures that everyone who contacts them is treated with respect and can expect a comprehensive and unique process to help tackle any issues, including home visits and financial assistance.
Perennial is truly a remarkable charity, and we at The Landscape Academy are proud to become a Perennial Partner and help raise awareness of the inspiring work and dedication they show.
